In 2004, Roberts combined his extensive entrepreneurial experience with his passion for adventure to hit the ground running into the entertainment world. After creating a production company to focus on reality TV and travel shows he quickly found success with his first show, Camp Reality, by selling it to Fox. Seeing the potential in a bigger partnership, he and Alex Boylan joined forces to create Around The World Productions in 2006. Find out more about Around The World Productions. Roberts is also CEO and host of the Yacht Channel.
Roberts earned degrees in business and philosophy from Southern Methodist University (also played football and lacrosse), before working as a consultant for Price Waterhouse LLC and then made a move to the internet industry where he was the seventh employee and became the VP of Marketing and PR for Savvis Communications – a national Internet Service Provider (NASDAQ: SVVS). Burton attended the Kellogg Graduate School of Business and graduated in 2000 with his MBA when he moved west to San Francisco to work for Marc Andreessen’s company, Loudcloud, in the heart of Silicon Valley where he was able to ride the tech boom all the way up…and all the way down.
Burton was also a contestant on CBS’s Survivor: Pearl Islands, raced in the Eco-Challenge: Fiji, a competitor on the competition based Bravo show, Battle of the Network Reality Stars, featured as an inspirational “story teller” in the movie The Compass, and can be found in Spirit of Adventure: Eagle Scouts and the Making of America’s Future (Burton earned his Eagle Scout award at age 14). His passion for travel has led him to over 50 countries on 6 continents around the world.
Roberts grew up enjoying summers in Branson, Missouri at the different Kanakuk Kamps learning to push himself through “exciting adventure in Christian athletics.” Throughout the rest of the year, he was also active in K-Life and the Central Presbyterian Church. Roberts lives in Santa Monica, CA and attends Bel Air Presbyterian Church.
